Mount Baker Toppers Day
If December 19, 2011 seemed to be a particularly harmonious day for you, there's a good reason: Lynden Mayor Scott Korthuis proclaimed it "Mount Baker Toppers Day."
The mayor read the proclamation at that night's City Council meeting and presented it to Toppers President Gary Davis and Musical Director Doug Broersma.
The Toppers showed their appreciation by organizing an a cappella flash mob -- Toppers disguised as mild-mannered citizens in the audience suddenly burst into song and treated the Council (and actual citizens) to a couple of Christmas carols.
The Toppers rehearsed in a converted barn near Lynden from 1991 through 2011, before moving to their current location in Bellingham.
